Art and the visual experience has always been my first language. Since as long as I can remember, it has been the way I’ve engaged with, and made sense of, my internal and external worlds.
Much of my work is inspired by nature. I’m fascinated with the interplay between the female body and the natural world; by beasts of fang and birds of talon. I feel an empowering sense of harmony between the contrasting elements of feminine energy and wild things.
While my art is informed by nature and my own experience as a woman there is much that is left unsaid in my paintings and I leave it up to the viewer to ascribe whatever symbolic meaning they prefer in the choice of subject. I am as interested in texture and color as I am in content, and it is my eternal hope as an artist that the viewer will feel compelled to closely examine each brushstroke.
My work centers the female gaze, not as one of longing, desire, or absence, but instead as one of intuition, embodied power, and presence. The animal companions in most of my paintings and drawings function not as symbols or trite reflections, but as extensions of inner sovereignty: instinct, appetite, vigilance, and grace. The languor of the pose of the women are juxtaposed with the sharpness, wildness, and capabilities of the bodies that refuse diminishment.
